"Surfside Retreat" Old Bar Beach is located in the beach side village of Old Bar which is part of the beautiful Manning Valley River and Rainforest Coast, just 30min north of Forster/Tuncurry. Old Bar is 3hours drive North of Sydney and just 8 minutes off the freeway.
You will enjoy a quiet location with the shopping village, beach and Club within a 5-minute walk of the house. Park and Tennis courts are right next-door. Surfside Retreat is a great place to base yourself when wanting to explore to Manning Valley area, with 42 kms of uncrowded beaches it’s great for surfing, fishing, swimming and beach walks and with 150kms of navigable waterways it’s great for the boating, water-skiing, canoeing and sailing as well.
Something else that is unique to Surfside Retreat is an airstrip for light aircraft within walking distance of the house. So if you have a plane you can even fly in, park your plane within view of the house and walk to your accommodation. (We have had many guests do this over the years). There are not many airstrips this close to the coast where you can do this.
Old Bar Shopping Village has a friendly relaxed atmosphere and includes Cafe's/Restaurants, Takeaways, Bakery, Post Office, Liquor store, Newsagent, Bilo Supermarket, Butchers, Hairdressers, Beauty Salons, Video Hire, Ladies Fashions, Medical Centre, Children's educational Toy and Lolly shop, Hardware, Chiropractor, Library and Vet & Real Estate Agents.
Old Bar Beach is a short stroll down the street and this beach is Pet Friendly away from the general surfing area if you are travelling with your pooch with leads required at certain times. There is also a Swimming Pool at the beach park plus Surf club, Café, Playground, BBQs & Skateboard Park.
Club Old Bar - NSW Award winning Bowling Club is only a 5-minute stroll from the house. Or if you like there is also a courtesy bus available. The Club includes a Bistro and a Coffee Shop that provides light lunches as well as TAB and ATM facilities. There are also newly opened conference and wedding facilities. You can enjoy great meal deals midweek at the Bistro as well as a $6 roast for dinner on Sundays. View the Club Old Bar website.

Saltwater Point and Wallabi Point are just a few minutes drive from Old Bar and offer more beautiful beaches and a famous Point break for surfers. There is also a national Park at Saltwater Reserve and a lagoon that is great for kids swimming and canoeing. Also there is a shady picnic and BBQ area and bush walking track along the lagoon.
The nearby fishing village of Manning Point (15-20 min drive) where the River meets the Ocean offers 4WD beach access and boat or kayak hire or you can fish from the beach or jetty. Fishing supplies and hire are available from the Manning Point Marina, which also houses Waterbird Restaurant. With absolute water frontage, you can enjoy morning tea & lunch through the week plus dinner on weekends. The Blue Water Cafe opposite has light meals also. Fabulous fresh Oysters can also be purchased direct from the Oyster farmers at Manning Point.
Take a drive inland to see Ellenborough Falls, which is the 2nd longest single drop waterfall in the southern hemisphere. Take the rainforest walk to the bottom of the falls and enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural water holes.
